Alec Watts, Assistant Deputy Director of Research and Policy



Alec Watts joined the California Civil Rights Department in October 2022. Alec has been conducting social science research for nearly 20 years and is passionate about using data and evidence to solve social problems. Prior to joining CRD, Alec served as a Science and Technology Policy Fellow consulting with the California Assembly Judiciary Committee where he aided in the advancement of evidence-based policy in California. He holds a Ph.D. in sociology from Stanford University where he studied the social psychology of prejudice and discrimination. Funded by the National Science Foundation and the Clayman Institute for Gender Research, his research has examined gender bias, anti-LGBTQ bias, and employment discrimination.
