Alec Watts, Assistant Deputy Director of Research and Strategic Initiatives



Alec Watts joined the California Civil Rights Department in October 2022 as Assistant Deputy Director of Research and Strategic Initiatives. Prior to joining CRD, Alec served as a Science and Technology Policy Fellow consulting with the California Assembly Judiciary Committee where he aided in the advancement of evidence-based policy in California. He holds a Ph.D. in sociology from Stanford University where he studied the social psychology of prejudice and discrimination. His research into gender bias, anti-gay prejudice, and employment discrimination has earned him grants from the National Science Foundation and the Clayman Institute for Gender Research.
