Jamie Crook, Chief Counsel



Jamie Crook is an experienced civil rights attorney with expertise in enforcing constitutional rights, immigrants’ rights, and protections against discrimination in housing, employment, and public accommodations.

Prior to joining CRD, Jamie was the Director of Litigation for the Center for Gender & Refugee Studies at UC Hastings College of the Law; a Senior Staff Attorney with the ACLU Foundation of Northern California; Counsel at Relman Colfax PLLC; Counsel with the Fair Housing and Community Development Project of the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law; and an environmental law fellow with Altshuler Berzon LLP and the Natural Resources Defense Council. She served as a law clerk to Judge Richard Paez of the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals and Justice Pius Langa of the South African Constitutional Court.

Jamie’s notable cases include Georgia State Conference, NAACP v. City of LaGrange, 940 F.3d 621 (11th Cir. 2019); The Anderson Group LLC v. City of Saratoga Springs, 805 F.3d 34 (2d Cir. 2015); Pangea Legal Services v. U.S. Department of Homeland Security, 512 F. Supp. 3d 966 (N.D. Cal. 2021); and Central Alabama Fair Housing Center v. Magee, 835 F. Supp. 2d 1165 (M.D. Ala. 2011).

Jamie is a member of the Executive Board of the Bay Area Lawyer Chapter of the American Constitution Society and previously served as a Commissioner with the State Bar of California Commission on Judicial Nominees Evaluation and as an appellate lawyer representative for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. Jamie was a Fulbright Grantee in South Africa in 2009 – 2010. She received her J.D. from Berkeley Law School and her A.B. from Brown University.
